The first Indian statues or sculptures to be seen by the general public, were actually hand carved wood.

Remember seeing the famous “cigar store” Indians. Tobacco was as a part of history to North America as were its native peoples, and because they used tobacco in a variety of ceremonies, the connection between the two remained for hundreds of years.
